Attorney Bio

Dr Suleman Ali is a qualified European and United Kingdom (Chartered) Patent Attorney.  He started patent work in 1996, and spent 13 years at J.A. Kemp & Co. in London, rising to partner level.  His work was primarily in the biotech and medical fields.  He has extensive experience in all aspects of patent practice including drafting new patent applications, patent prosecution in many different jurisdictions and European opposition and appeal proceedings.  He is familiar with the key issues involved in obtaining patent protection in Europe, the United States and the UK.  He has experience in litigation work in the United Kingdom and worked on Eli Lilly vs HGS in the United Kingdom as well as advising on the counterpart opposition proceedings before the EPO.  He has handled cases in the genomics, vaccine, immunology and diagnostics areas.  He has worked with foreign patent attorneys advising on European and UK patent practice.  He has also worked directly with small and medium sized European companies and UK universities advising on patent strategy.  His clients have included GSK, Imperial Cancer Research and Isis Innovation (the technology transfer arm of Oxford University).

Suleman has a DPhil from Oxford University on the genetics of the immune response to HIV.
